I’m 30 days into my new skin care regime. To recap: me and a friend bought a 3 month supply of Dermalift (amino acids) and Collagen to see if we could rebuild the collagen in our skin and reduce wrinkles. I also bought a 1 month supply of Somato 8 (an HGH releasing supplement) because I’m 50 and HGH release gets a bit slow at my age. After 2 weeks I reported a noticeable but subtle difference in my skin and also, surprisingly, somewhat clearer eyesight possibly due to the eye being made up of 85% collagen.
So how are we doing after 30 days? [Read more →]

Top health news on the BBC website today is an article about a research review by researchers in Copenhagen suggesting that vitamins A and E increased the rate of early death. The article is good. Go read it, but make sure you read the whole thing. Read how they carried out the review and how they selected the research to be included. First they took 68 trials, added them together to get a result that suggested that vitamins had no impact on the risk of early death. Then they took out 21 trials that they thought ‘had a slightly higher possibility of producing a skewed result’ and guess what… [Read more →]

A few weeks ago on the morning news, a health ‘expert’ claimed that baby boomers are taking vitamins, but that the scientific evidence of any benefit is inadequate.
I’m one of these vitamin gobbling baby boomers and I don’t need a scientist to tell me when something is working for me. Sure, I would like scientific evidence, however, I expect I would be toothless and in my grave before the scientific community got around to carrying out useful research on holistic health practice.
I don’t mean to be disrespectful to scientists. They do fantastic work and our quality of life would be utterly grim without them. Indeed, I would dead if it weren’t for antibiotics. However, while they are great at developing drugs to treat serious illness, they are not great at preventing ill health.

In 1986, the National Academy of Sciences estimated that 200 to 1000 people may die in the United States each year from cancers caused by drinking or eating foods prepared in chlorinated water.
Then Dr. Julian Andelman of the University of Pittsburgh found that the major threat caused by these water pollutants is far more likely to occur as air toxins in the home. He discovered that, in the shower, [Read more →]

2 weeks ago I began a 3 month anti-aging skin care regime. I’m taking Collagen Type I & III, Somato 8 ( amino acids that stimulate HGH release), and use a night cream with ’secretogogues’ (more amino acids). I’m doing this alongside my normal skin care which is full of anti-oxidants and, of course, I’m taking my vitamins. I’m beginning to notice some some unexpected changes. [Read more →]

I went to the dentist last week for my six month check-up and he was very pleased indeed. It’s been 2 years since I began taking nutritional supplements and 2 years since I have had any tooth decay. The year before I began supplementing, I had a root canal, a number of fillings and I lost a molar because of bone loss. It all cost a fortune, and was a real pain.
I also had x-rays taken and we compared the bone where I had lost the molar. [Read more →]

I’m not real big on skin care products that claim to reverse the effects of aging and I think that we’ve all gotten a bit crazy with wanting to stay young forever. I quite enjoy being 50, but maybe that’s because I don’t look or feel 50. I suppose I’ve got the benefits of experience without the side effects of poor health. My skin looks pretty good. It looks younger than many 38 year olds I know. Here’s what I’m doing. [Read more →]

On January 15th scores of articles based on research carried out by Stanford University hit the web claiming that human growth hormones (HGH) did not help to increase life span or fitness and may have adverse effects including joint swelling and pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and a tendency toward diabetes.
After reading a few, it was unclear to me which HGH therapy they were talking about: HGH injections or HGH releasing supplements. Today I found an article in the LA Times which cleared this up for me. [Read more →]

Over the years I’ve taken vitamins because I knew my diet wasn’t giving me all the nutrients I needed for great health. But I never really felt much of a difference so I would stop after a few months only to try again a few months later. Sound familiar?
Two years ago, I stumbled upon a nutritional supplement that did make a difference. They were so strong that it took me 6 weeks to slowly build up to the full dosage and after 3 months I began to notice a real difference in my hair, skin, teeth and energy levels.
