Are you taking the Optimal Daily Allowance?

January 12th, 2007 · No Comments

Over the years I’ve taken vitamins because I knew my diet wasn’t giving me all the nutrients I needed for great health. But I never really felt much of a difference so I would stop after a few months only to try again a few months later. Sound familiar?

Two years ago, I stumbled upon a nutritional supplement that did make a difference. They were so strong that it took me 6 weeks to slowly build up to the full dosage and after 3 months I began to notice a real difference in my hair, skin, teeth and energy levels.

There were two differences between these vitamins and what I had tried before:

  1. The new vitamins were a complete multi-vitamin and mineral combination and
  2. They had the Optimum Daily Allowance (ODA) and not the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) I had taken before.

So what is the ODA? The ODA is a reference level that nutritionally minded health professionals believe have disease preventive effects. The ODA can be many times higher than the RDA, but is well within the upper limit of many nutrients that can cause side effects.

A usage guide can be found on DrLam.Com
If you want to use nutritional supplements to optimize your health, rather than to avoid nutrient deficiency diseases such as scurvy or rickets, use this guide when buying your vitamins. If you are still confused about why and how much to supplement, have a good look around Dr Lam’s site – it is the most helpful I’ve come across yet.
