The Benefits of Coconut Oil
The benefits of coconut oil are many. This post explains the benefits and provides guidelines on how to take it.
Coconut oil is a medium chain saturated fat that many people are using for
- hair and skin
- weight loss
- acid reflux and heartburn
- candida and balancing intestinal flora
- and strengthening the immune system
Coconut Oil and Cholesterol
There are claims that coconut oil lowers cholesterol, but clinical studies show that it does not. This doesn’t mean it’s a bad fat, it remains a healthy fat as long as it is used as part of a healthy diet.
Side effects of Coconut Oil
Some people report side effects such as nausea, vomiting and gas. These generally occur if you take too much too soon.
How to take Coconut Oil
Internal Use – Cooking with and eating coconut oil
To get the benefits of this excellent tropical oil take up to 3 tablespoons per day. I urge you to work up to this dose gradually over a few weeks time. Listen to your body. If you notice any side effects cut back and go slow. Your body may be healing and this takes time.
You can take it as it is, but it is much nicer when used in cooking in place of butter or other oils. I like to mix it with butter when baking and with olive oil when cooking savory.
Topical Use – for hair and skin
Coconut oil can be applied directly to the skin or hair and is a traditional skin and hair product in many countries.
Not A Miracle Cure!
Coconut oil is a healthy food product that can help you get and stay healthy. It is not a miracle cure for anything! Use as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle and reap the benefits of coconut oil!
